In Mary Oliver's poem, the roses say to her:
" the heart shackles are not, as you think,
death, illness, pain,
unrequited hope, not loneliness, but
lassitude, rue, vainglory, fear, anxiety,
May I pay attention to the roses, whose task Oliver says, is to be extravagant.
Isaiah says: "then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf be cleared." The roses and I long for that day.
